confidential enquiries

confidential enquiries
special enquiries that seek to improve health and health care by collecting evidence on aspects of care and disseminating recommendations based on these findings. For example, the Confidential Enquiry into Maternal Deaths and Child Health (CEMACH; see maternal mortality rate) and Confidential Enquiries into Stillbirths and Deaths in Infancy (CESDI) report on the care of mothers and children. The National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcome and Death investigates general medical care, and the National Confidential Inquiry into Suicide and Homicide by People with Mental Illness covers the care of people with mental illness. The National Patient Safety Agency manages the contracts with the confidential enquiries.
